Hi, friend — welcome back to the edit.
I’ll be honest: sometimes I choose books just because they look good.
Not instead of reading them — but because a beautiful book can hold space in a room just like a vase or a painting. It can draw the eye, start a conversation, and set a mood… all while sitting quietly on a table.
And few do that better than the TASCHEN “Basic Art” series — a collection of compact, affordable design books that bring both color and culture to any surface.

I remember picking up my first one (Neutra, I think?) at a museum shop in Vienna. I didn’t know much about art history at the time — I just liked the bold colors on the cover and the soft matte finish.
Back home, I set it on my shelf, and something shifted. That one book made the whole space feel more intentional. Not styled — lived in.
Since then, I’ve added a few more: Eames, Bauhaus, Le Corbusier, Adolf Loos.
Now they’re part of my space, my rhythm, my atmosphere.
Why These Books Work in Interior Design
- Their covers are bold, graphic, and modern — perfect for minimalist or creative interiors.
- The spines look great stacked or upright, and you can mix and match colors to suit your palette.
- They add an intellectual and artistic layer to your space — without feeling pretentious.
- And they’re actually worth reading, too.
Coffee tables, open shelving, bedside nooks — wherever they go, they bring a little more story.
Resumé
We’re told not to judge books by their covers — but when it comes to home styling, sometimes the cover is the point.

A few well-placed art books can bring texture, tone, and thoughtfulness to even the most pared-back room.
And maybe, in between moments of scrolling or rushing, they invite you to slow down. Flip a page.
Until next time —
Stay intentional, stay inspired.
